Good afternoon. How can I handle a 3-year-old's tantrums in the store or outside? I try to explain and talk to them every time, but it seems useless. I understand that patience is key during these moments, but are there any effective ways to distract them or other strategies? I would appreciate any advice from those who have experienced this.

I understand how challenging it can be when little ones have tantrums in public places. Try preparing some 'rescue' toys or small surprises in advance that you can give your child during such moments — this can distract them and help shift their focus. Calm, confident communication and creating a sense that everything is under control without unnecessary emotions often soothe young children. You might also try a simple technique: tell your child that if they behave well, something special awaits them after shopping or they'll receive a small reward, which can motivate them.

Try to go to the store as little as possible (preferably with delivery). When we do go, we agree beforehand on what I will get. If they ask for something else, I tell them we’ll leave all the shopping in the cart and leave. Outside, it’s probably best to leave on time)) of course, I don’t always have the strength for this, and a tantrum still happens, but it passes when I manage to pull myself together, feel sorry for the child, and talk through the emotions.

We always make arrangements. No tantrums. A few times, we didn't go shopping together during this period.

The easiest thing to do is to avoid going to the store.

This is currently a three-year-old crisis, and we're experiencing the same right now. The child has developed emotions such as anger, hatred, and resentment. These are healthy emotions; they help correct negative influences from outside. The child can't control these feelings yet, and it's important to teach them how to use these emotions properly. This phase will pass—it's just something to get through. Sometimes, a mother hasn't personally gone through this crisis in her own childhood (for example, if she was suppressed or silenced), which makes it harder to teach the child to manage these emotions effectively. In such cases, the mother might also tend to suppress the child's feelings. A little therapy for the mother could be very helpful here.

I simply don't react, pick up my child, and continue on to where we need to go. After 3-5 times, the tantrums stopped. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Right now, things are like this with my younger one. I just ignore him and do what I need to do. If he drops to the floor because something isn't going his way, I pick him up and carry him. I understand it's challenging, but I'm doing my best to stay calm and patient.
