Pregnancy Calendar at Week 10

Hello, mom! I already feel like a little princess!

You see, I’m now fully grown — I’m as tall as a real little princess! I’ve gained almost 4 centimeters in height and 9 to 13 grams in weight. I’m already so different from who I used to be — no longer just a tiny little baby, but a real human now!
Here’s what’s happening with me this week:
My belly has pretty much filled out — now it’s going to start caring for me and providing everything I need. Thanks, little tummy, you’re doing an amazing job!
I’m starting to enjoy tastes! On the menu now are flavor-filled recipes, and the muscles in my mouth are already practicing — they’re working hard whenever I learn to eat and swallow without even thinking about it.
My nervous system is almost fully developed — this is a big step, as it will help me breathe smoothly once I’m out in the big wide world.
Say hello to my kidneys, liver, and even my brain — they’re already working! As long as my mom keeps eating well, I can’t wait to meet her. 😉
A little wiggle of mine is now visible — it will help me breathe easier when I come out into this big, wonderful world.
I’m growing! Right now, I’m about 9-10 centimeters long — hard to believe, isn’t it?
Every day I learn something new, and I thank you for that. Thanks for caring about me, mom. We make such an incredible team. I already love you so much ❤️

What Happens to Me Actually

By the 10th week of pregnancy, a woman can still experience symptoms of toxicosis. The uterus continues to grow in size and now more resembles a ball rather than a pear. Hormonal changes lead to visible alterations in the woman's body and internal sensations.

Uterus and Appendages

Inside the future baby’s uterus, growth and weight gain continue. The size of the uterus now compares to a large grapefruit. The yellow body in the ovaries keeps functioning, although its diameter starts to decrease. This period corresponds to the development of the placenta, which supports the healthy pregnancy and prevents preterm contractions. During this time, the woman’s uterus remains firm and the cervix is not overly soft. It can change color and become more pigmented, especially noticeable in the skin folds. Some women may notice this process happening later. The uterus’s dense tissue makes this more difficult and due to the presence of fat deposits, it appears a bit rounded. The growth of the fetus can cause mild discomfort and a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen.

Emotional Side

By the 10th week of pregnancy, many future mothers may experience a decrease in emotional stability. Some may easily cry or laugh, which is linked to hormonal fluctuations. During this period, the fetus’s stress sensitivity increases, and some women even develop a mild jaundice of the skin and eye sclerae. As the pregnancy progresses, these manifestations usually weaken. Later, hormonal changes may cause a slight rash on the chest skin and around the nipple. Fertility may enhance in sensitive zones like the groin, underarms, on the legs, and in the pelvic area.

Mood

Around the tenth week of pregnancy, the overall mood of future moms generally improves. If previously they could cry unexpectedly or laugh, now they become more emotionally steady. This can be associated with reduced hormonal fluctuations and a calmer state. In the future, moms can notice a more gentle and pleasant attitude towards their environment.

Skin and Hair Condition

During the pregnancy, most women notice an improvement in skin condition. By the 10th week, they typically develop a dark line called the “pregnancy line,” which runs from the navel to the pubic area and becomes more visible with time. The overall glow of the skin also improves, especially noticeable in women with a slim build. The skin becomes more radiant and mucous membranes tend to become thicker. Facial redness and acne may seem to ease for some, but for others, this process might occur later. Women with dense body tissue may notice this later since the thick tissue can obscure the skin’s surface from the uterine wall. To maintain pregnancy, timely medical help is essential. In most cases, a doctor will check the pregnancy’s progress in the early weeks and will be able to detect potential issues or complications, especially with hormonal or chronic illnesses.

Procedures

  • Use US – to assess the overall health of the embryo and to identify chronic infections.
  • Treatment with tablets and injections – necessary if there are signs or risk factors for the fetus’s health.
  • Light physical activities – doctors recommend swimming, walking, and simple yoga exercises.
  • Prenatal education – around the 10th week, more free time appears, allowing you to focus on your pregnancy. This period is also good to get informed about your body’s condition and to continue healthy lifestyle habits. Emotional states can fluctuate, so it's important to be attentive to your feelings and consult a doctor if needed.
  • Medication – to treat colds or other minor illnesses during pregnancy, always with a doctor’s consultation.
  • Avoiding tattooing and piercings – these procedures are contraindicated during pregnancy, including up to the 10th week.

Pregnancy Difficulties

In the tenth week of pregnancy, the risks decrease compared to earlier weeks. By the 10th week, the placenta is well-formed, reliably protecting the fetus from negative external factors. During this period, the woman’s immune activity increases, making her more resistant to infections, circulatory illnesses, vascular diseases, respiratory allergies, and other chronic conditions.

Premature Birth

Some women may experience signs of labor from the 10th week. This is a pre-term pregnancy warning, as hormonal fluctuations can cause mild collagen and elastin tissue loss in the chest. Such manifestations are often mistaken for pregnancy loss, so don’t worry too much about these changes, as they usually diminish after delivery. Excessive activity or stress may induce premature contractions, so it’s important to avoid excessive physical strain.

What a Future Mom Can Do:

  • Maintain physical activity – supporting physical activity positively influences pregnancy and helps prevent excess weight gain.
  • Take vitamins and recommended medications – by the 10th week, folic acid intake is ongoing, and it’s advisable to continue taking prenatal supplements.

What is Allowed and What is Not

At 10 weeks, pregnancy concludes the formation of the embryonic system and the beginning of its active growth. Preventive functions of the placenta protect the future baby. However, this does not mean the mother can forget about her new position and continue her usual lifestyle. Excessive activity can cause blood flow redistribution in the vessels and increase vascular load, which can adversely affect the embryo’s health.

Avoid

  • Avoid alcohol consumption – it penetrates the fetus and worsens the division process of cells.
  • Do not visit saunas or baths – these procedures are contraindicated during pregnancy, including 10 weeks.

Eating Right

Living a healthy lifestyle and eating well play a key role during pregnancy. In the first ten weeks, most gynecologists usually do not give specific recommendations, so it’s really important for future moms to understand what kind of diet will support the development of the embryo.
During the 10th week of pregnancy, it is recommended to:
  • Consume more dairy products. Choose foods with beneficial bacteria, which can be found on packaging. Include yogurt, kefir, and sour cream in your daily diet. These foods help maintain the balance of microbiota in your gut, strengthen immunity, and prevent stomach issues.
Avoid moderate consumption of pork. It is rich in protein, which is necessary for forming new cells in the fetus and helps develop the immune system and prevent some diseases like cancer. Vitamin C plays a crucial role in these processes. A deficiency can lead to skin issues and poor eyesight. So, it is recommended to consume the following daily:
  • Fresh carrots;
  • Various types of cabbage;
  • Red currants;
  • Sweet grapes;
  • Lemon juice;
  • Apricot nectar.

Vitamin E

From the 10th week of pregnancy, many future mothers need to add extra doses of tocopherol to support the healthy development of the fetal heart. If the baby had braces, they become more resistant to fractures now. You can get the necessary amount of Vitamin D from the following foods:
  • Cod liver oil;
  • Salmon;
  • Eggs;
  • Chicken liver;
  • Butter.

Potassium and Magnesium

These are vital elements necessary for the healthy functioning of the baby’s heart. By the 10th week, they are essential for the formation of the child's cardiovascular system. If the deficiency of these microelements occurs, it can lead to arrhythmias, drops in blood pressure, muscle weakness, and dizziness. The sources of potassium and magnesium include:
  • Bananas;
  • Walnuts;
  • Capers;
  • Cherries;
  • Cucumbers;
  • Mussels;
  • Chia seeds.

Calcium and Phosphorus

For proper development of the child at the 10th week, calcium and phosphorus are necessary. The balance of these microelements ensures normal growth of the child's bones, teeth, and strong connective tissue. To maintain the required level of calcium and phosphorus, future mothers should include in their diet:
  • Fish;
  • Eggs;
  • Meat;
  • Milk;
  • Grapes;
  • Chestnuts;
  • Figs;
Important! Choose multivitamin complexes recommended by your doctor based on the recommended intake during pregnancy.

Helpful Tips

Starting from the tenth week of pregnancy, it's important to pay special attention to how your body feels since its parameters can change quickly. To avoid stretch marks, it's recommended to use cosmetic oils and creams for skin care.
To reduce the risk of harm to your baby, it's better to avoid using chemical products in cosmetics. It's not necessary to dye your hair, but if you want to change your look, choose safe dyes and apply them away from the roots of your hair.
During the tenth week of pregnancy, your emotional state generally stabilizes. It’s very important for your overall well-being to get psychological and physical support. This period is considered calm, and if your partner feels good, it’s an excellent time for travel, evening walks, and rekindling intimate relationships.

Exercises for Future Moms

Taking part in sports during the 10th week of pregnancy can have a positive impact on the health of future moms. However, if there are any contraindications or if you’re not feeling your best, it’s better to switch your fitness routine to after pregnancy. If you’re facing restrictions, you can focus on gentle exercises at home with supervision from a trainer or choose simple workouts to keep in shape. Among all the training routines in the 10th week of pregnancy, water-based exercises are especially popular. They help relax muscles, reduce back pain, support proper posture, and burn extra calories.
One of the standout workouts during the 10th week of pregnancy is aqua aerobics. It helps soothe muscles, prevents back problems, supports good posture, and promotes the shedding of excess weight.

Troubles During Pregnancy

Constipation

In the 10th week of pregnancy, women sometimes face issues with constipation. This is especially true for those who already had digestive problems before pregnancy. A rare cause of constipation is an overactive prostate. The uterus is still small and doesn't press on the intestines. That's why it's important for future moms to understand how to quickly adjust their habits to avoid constipation.

Diarrhea

If a pregnant woman experiences regular diarrhea at 10 weeks, it's often a sign of hyperactivity in her immune system, which is common in early pregnancy. Sometimes the diarrhea is caused by toxins, infections, or certain vitamins. If diarrhea occurs, it's important to consult a healthcare professional promptly.

Nausea and Vomiting

These symptoms of toxicosis can affect future moms already at 10 weeks and even earlier. If episodes of vomiting happen more than twice a day and disrupt the eating routine, or cause dehydration and weight loss, it’s necessary to see a doctor for evaluation.

Headache

Up to 70% of women experience headaches in the 10th week of pregnancy, often linked to hormonal changes in the body. They might react to magnetic waves, weather changes, or increased brain activity, which leads to mild or severe headaches. It's important to monitor the severity and frequency of headaches. If your discomfort worsens significantly, try to stick to a gentle sleep routine, stay well-hydrated, and maintain healthy eating. Persistent or worsened headaches should prompt a visit to the healthcare provider, and medication should only be taken under medical supervision.

Sinusitis

Inflamed nasal passages are common during pregnancy and can indicate sinus issues. In the 10th week, a pregnant woman’s nose may become more swollen, which can increase pressure on her sinuses and lead to inflammation. It’s important to visit a doctor to rule out infections or other conditions. Using home remedies like chocolate, herbal teas, and head massages might help alleviate symptoms.

Back Pain

At 10 weeks, a pregnant woman’s uterus is still small but has grown enough to put pressure on her lower back, which can cause discomfort, especially in the lumbar region. Some women may experience pain at the end of the first trimester, or if the pain is dull, radiates to the lower abdomen, or is accompanied by other symptoms like swelling or temperature increase, it’s best to see a healthcare provider. Regular monitoring and consultation can help prevent complications.
